Nr Wylye, Wiltshire
This house is built high up on a south facing hillside, overlooking views across Wiltshire. It is partially surrounded and protected by mature woodland. The owners operate an agricultural business on the site.
The house is based on an American saltbox design, featuring lower roofs and eaves to the north, with more glazing to the south. The central glazed atrium has become the primary living area which includes a wood burning stove.
The house is heated by a wood gasification boiler which is computer controlled to optimise heat output. The stored heat is circulated across to the house for use within the hot water cylinder and underfloor heating. The burner is fired up daily during the winter, but less frequently as the temperature rises.
