Chew Stoke

Garden Room Extension

Background

Our clients wanted an improved environment for their young family with a light, airy space connected with the kitchen and play area.

Design

The Garden Room was built directly up against the raised garden so that you can look directly outside and 'through' the plants. Being built on the north elevation, the need for light was considered imperative, and the removal of the former rear 'extension' and provision of rooflights has addressed this requirement.

Technical

A grass (sedum) roof can be viewed from the first floor, as well as enjoyed from the garden. A wood burner was installed to provide secondary heating to reduce the family's dependency on fossil fuels.
