Chew Stoke

Private house near Bath

We were asked to re-design a barn conversion within the Chew Valley. The site lies within the Green Belt, the local Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the open countryside, and enjoys stunning views across the lake and surrounding Mendip Hills.
In undertaking this project, we re-evaluated the site, and took our cues from the setting and orientation of the site. We carefully assessed the access and arrival to the barn, re-organising the incoming road onto the site. We recognised that almost all visitors would drive to the barn and that the provision of a spacious courtyard with parking was important. We therefore positioned the entrance opening onto the courtyard.
