Manor Farm Barns, South Stoke
for a local farmer
This stone barn was converted into 2 small independent offices. Planning permission was obtained under the planning policy guidance (PPG2) which allows diversification on farms provided the proposal meet certain conditions. In this case the original barn was considered to be worthy of conversion.
The barn slopes down the site toward the south, with far reaching views across to the Mendip Hills. Being dug into the boundary, the barn needed extensive damp proofing and tanking, before the walls could be insulated.
The roof was largely taken off, and sound trusses re-used, with new exposed timber introduced within the office areas to give a spacious airy feel. The roof was insulated and re-covered with pantiles salvaged from the building.
